EA STERN SHORE OF VIRGINIA-KIPTOPEKE S.P. — Fall 2011
102 species
The backwater marshes, delicious seafood and excellent birding opportunities keep drawing us back to this unique part of the U.S. At Kiptopeke State Park viewing large kettles of migrating raptors and holding rare birds such as Hooded Warblers and Grey-cheeked Thrush in your hand at the banding station is a rare treat. This year we visited the long awaited Fishermen Island. Phyllis Brady, Diane Estes and Gail Tomei added many new life birds such as Peregrine Falcon, Greater Black-back Gull, and Buff-breasted Sandpiper. We got a close up look at a Merlin held from at the hawk banding Station.
Staying at a beach side house in Cape Charles was cozy and fun! Lump crab and sweet potato biscuits to die for.
