COMPLETE SCHEDULE

OUR LAST TRIPS

Everglades National Park
You missed it - 86 species.

We had a great day start to the day with a Barred Owl staring at us through the fog at Lucky Hammock. With patience we all got a good look at a Yellow-breasted Chat, which was a Florida bird for Mary and John Curlew. At the Annex we were surprised with an early Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Yellow-throated warbler. Gumbo Limbo trail had a lone Hermit Trush walking down the road and it was a life bird for Suzanne Bradley a new keen birder. We searched for the Brown-crested Flycatcher with Paul Bithorn and other birders from Tropical Audubon, but had no luck. We settled for the most amazing views of Swallow-tailed Kites gliding close overhead. Myzarek Pond was in good form with lots of species as we discussed the difference in Black-crowned and Yellow-crowned Night Herons, Roseate Spoonbills and Wood Storks were in abundance at Paurotis Pond. Mary Ann Smith was happy with the Cuban race of the Yellow Warbler which kept making trips back and forth across the road at Flamingo for all to see. Jack Fuego brought his wonderful scope and it really helped as we could see the difference between Royal and Caspian Terns, as a Reddish Egret danced on the sand bar.  A surprise of the day included a rare Stilt Sandpiper feeding with its characteristic tilt at Eco Pond (thanks Bryant). A Northern Harrier saluted good bye with a good day of birding behind us.
Big Cypress & S.W. Florida
84 species

Traveling down the Cypress Bend Boardwalk we saw the most beautiful spring male Hooded Warbler. The brillant yellow againist the black hood and black eye was amazing. He was a little shy but with patience we Betty Cash and Mary Curlew got to see him along with Judy Ford to who this was a life bird. There were other warblers in this small gator infested pond including Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Parula, Black and White Warblers. A flock of 10 Marbled Godwits were with other shorebirds-Dunlin, Sanderling and Black-bellied Plovers at Tigertail Beach. At the old Briggs Nature Center we saw Red-breasted Merganser and Reddish Egret in the pond, as well as very good looks at Pine Warbler and Eastern Towhee. Eagle Lakes was very dry with hundreds of wading birds up close. A far away Snail Kite ended a beautiful day.

OUTSTANDING ADVENTURE

Canopy Tower and El Valle Panama
Mid July 2008

Panama has over 950 species in this tropical rainforest paradise. We will be staying at the world's famous Canopy Tower. It is know for its excellent guides, great food and birding at the canopy tops from the observation deck where you can be at bird's eye level to see Blue Contigas and Toucans.

We will be maximizing our birding time by staying at the lodge and taking day trips to one of the world's top birding spot Pipeline Road, Plantation Trail, Old Gamboa Road, Ammo Dump Ponds & much more.

The trip includes a night tour to look for Potoos, Sloths, Owls and nocturnal mammals. Also included is a trip up to the highlands of El Valle to the beautiful mountain lodge with its spectacular feeders, unique birds and casual elegance and a chance for 300 species. An optional to take a canopy ride is available. A day trip to the Pacific coast will be additional species and a beach picnic.

Last year a 5 day trip brought 263 species and rarities such as Spectacle Owl, Giant Potoo, Oscillated Antbird, Pheasant Cuckoo, White-whiskered Puffbird and much more.
